They probably got confused with the movie being on USA. Either that or something else.

Ok, you all have been following the crazy story about Nathan saying IF he had the money, he'd buy the rights to Firefly and make it his own? I can't help think this is all an elaborate ruse to make Browncoats look pathetically stupid and lame. I'd like to think that Nathan is not on a power trip and EW/media outlets are taking advantage of his interview. All I can think is why wasn't this done sooner? Why didn't we pool all our hard-earned money to buy it years ago? Maybe I'm just tired and thinking it's  :deadhorse:  I don't know. Send chocolate, please.

Help Nathan Fillion buy Firefly

Meredith Woerner — Help Nathan Fillion buy Firefly A couple days ago Nathan Fillion made this statement: "If I got $300 million from the California Lottery, the first thing I would do is buy the rights to Firefly, make it own my own, and distribute it on the Internet." And with those words, the movement was started. Already the internet is rallying a crowd-funded movement to get Fillion his ship back.

The website Help Nathan Buy Firefly has been launched. Here is their plan:

Phase 1) Generate momentum. We're going to setup a way people can pledge funding towards the mission of putting the rights to Firefly back into the hands of people who care about it. Since Nathan said he'd be game to be those hands, we're going to watch for ...

Phase 2) Nathan chimes in towards us and approves the effort. At that point, it's a real mission and we'll switch into...

Phase 3) We'll setup a way for the funding to be collected into a Non-Profit Organization. We'll then want everyone to make good on their pledge and contribute.

How can you help? Share the website, facebook page account. A recent update says they'll have a pledge system lined up in a few days. Remember — you can't stop the signal!

I think that Nathan is saying if he had the money, he'd buy the rights and do more Firefly. I think he means that in his heart of hearts. However, I think people are deranged if they think they can pool their nickles and dimes and buy the rights and give them to Nathan or Joss or anyone else and get more Firefly.

The Firefly fandom was very, very, very devoted. But not widespread. Has it grown over the years? Yes. To the point where it is economically viable to make more? Sorry, I just don't see it. I hope and wish with all my heart but I have to be realistic about it as well. As Stephen King is fond of saying, wish in one hand, gao se in the other. See which fills up first.

I agree with Tink. Even if a grassroots effort earned enough money to buy the rights and produce a few episodes or film another movie, it wouldn't make money. Not that that would be the ultimate goal in some fans minds. They just want more of their BDH's on screen and I feel their pain, but I would want an economically viable product that could sustain itself for a few season--on TV--or a movie that made enough to be worthy, financially, of sequels. Sadly, as much as I Want all that that, I can't see it happening. The only chance I see of getting more FF is if Joss hits a home run with The Avengers and it pulls in moocho grande $$ domestically and some crazy studio exec decided to take a chance on Joss and FF again, but I don't really see that happening either.
And I'm thinking you weren't burdened with an overabundance of schooling.

There might be a couple of formats that could work -- maybe.  Syndication or a prepaid streaming series (like through Vudu) are two I'm thinking of. There are many more people who have discovered the show post-Serenity than before then.

I think the bigger issue is that the actors have all aged and moved on, despite the occasional shout-outs, and Whedon may still feel the sting of being canceled then not doing so well in the box office.   But who knows? I mean, look at what Star Trek has gone through over the years...

IMHO, if Joss hits a homerun with The Avengers and it makes 50 qudarillion kaboodles of money, it will mean he will be signed up to do the Avengers sequel and maybe get Cabin in the Woods in the theaters. I really don't see them throwing money at him to do a sequel to a five or six year old movie that has yet to turn a profit based on a TV series that didn't make it a full season.

/looking at this from the producer's POV, not the GFB's

The aging factor would definitely play in but they all still look good even if they are older.  They could have
a reunion of everyone getting back together after they all went their separate ways for awhile.  Even Zoe
could have gone off to have a baby and raise the child and that could be a new addition to the cast.  It
could work even with the age and the only two who have a real problem are Adam and Nathan. I have a
feeling Chuck may not be on much longer but Nathan has a real hit on his hands with Castle and it appeals
to a whole lot of people so that would be tough to work around since I don't think that show is going anywhere
for quite awhile.

Something tells me that Adam will be available for a lot more Cons some May. I see Castle sticking around for a couple more years.

I love Chuck but it does feel like they are winding things down.  Nathan has such a great personality that
a show like "Castle" was really right up his alley. He has found a much bigger audience then he ever did
with Firefly and this type of show always has legs if the cast is appealing and they are.

A Firefly spin-off could be interesting, and perhaps fresh 'nuff for series or syndication.
