Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse... but you take a boat in the air that you don't love... she'll shake you off just as sure as the turn of the worlds. Love keeps her in the air when she ought to fall down... tells you she's hurting before she keels. Makes her a home.  -Mal

I'd suspect that coming out as a conservative is a braver thing to do in Hollywood than this, but que sera sera.

I'd suspect you're right .

If some dude says "I'm not working with that rightwing nutjob." , people will nod their heads knowingly and move on .

Drop  "gay" into the sentence and we have a firestorm .
( heck , Muslim , Jew ,  black -  any non-WASP really , will provoke similar reactions )

That said - let me tell you how hard it is for a straight , white , Christian male to succeed in our society , it's positively awful ... always bein' kept down by the man ....

;)

It's nice here with a view of the trees
Eating with a spoon?
They don't give you knives?
'Spect you watch those trees
Blowing in the breeze
We want to see you lead a normal life

I was just reading the thread on Whedonesque about this and I'm really surprised at how many regulars
didn't know this.  I didn't think it was a big secret at all. Huh.

Pearl@32

I didn't really know, but it doesn't surprise me. It's his business, whether he wants to talk about it or not.

I did think it a little unusual Sean came out a week into the series. Not calling it a publicity stunt, but I thought the timing a little odd.
"Is this how time normally passes? Really slowly, in the right order?"

Eh, it fit in with his character and I guess for him he was ready. I don't read that much into it. He just needs to be careful that he's not used for a fricking pawn for the LBGT community.

I just read an article posted on Whedonesque that was put up a few days ago where he talks about it and
how he hid it from cast members or so he thought.  All those years he spent trying to hide something that
no one was surprised about. That's the really sad part. Most people did know.

I agree. My sister Carol and her friend attended the Serenity Premiere and after party with me. They went to say hi to Sean because he was their favorite and they had a huge crush. I'm not sure what or how he greeted them but their gaydar went off immediately and walked away heartbroken. I still remember my sis telling me and the look on her face.

Yes, it was kind of obvious when he came on panels. He had the mannerisms many young gay men have.
Women are usually pretty astute about picking up on this.
