President Obama Wondering Why He Always Has To Initiate Phone Call With NCAA Champions

WASHINGTON—In the moments following Alabama's 21-0 victory in the BCS National Championship Monday, President Barack Obama asked several advisers why he always has to be the one to call the winning team's coach. "This happens every year. The guys obviously know I want to talk to them, but still I sit here and wait around until finally I'm forced to do the dialing," Obama said before groaning and asking his secretary to find him Nick Saban's phone number. "They are national champions. I'm president of the United States. Am I crazy to think that one of the first things they'd want to do is call me? I'd just like to know I'm on their minds for once." Despite Obama's disappointment with always having to initiate calls with national champions, he did add that he wishes the MLS champion L.A. Galaxy would stop calling him.

Saban's 1PM press conference was about 20 minutes late today because Saban was on the phone "with the president". I just assumed they meant the University of Alabama president Robert Witt, but no, it was *the* President.

Well, Spooky, you might have to start looking for a new OC...

Speculation increasing that Nussmeier could be headed to Alabama

While most of the coaching speculation about UW lately has been who will fill the last spot on defense, the Huskies could also soon find themselves in need of an offensive coordinator.

Due in part to events surrounding some of the other candidates, speculation is increasing this morning that Doug Nussmeier may soon be named the new offensive coordinator at Alabama.

Nussmeier was reported last week to be one of three candidates for the job along with former Arizona State and Boise State head coach Dirk Koetter and longtime NFL assistant Brian Schottenheimer.

Koetter, however, was officially hired this morning by the Falcons while Schottenheimer is in talks with the Rams, among a couple other options.

Unless there's another candidate, that has some surmising that Nussmeier will be the man for Alabama, including this report this morning from CoachingSearch.com. UW coach Steve Sarkisian said in an interview on KJR-AM on Friday that Nussmeier had interviewed and that there was mutual interest and that there was a chance Nussmeier would be on the move.

Nussmeier has been UW's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach since Sarkisian's arrival prior to the 2009 season. However, Sarkisian calls the offensive plays and also has a big hand in helping guide the quarterbacks. Sarkisian acknowledged that one reason Nussmeier would be interested in going elsewhere would be to have more responsibility.

Nussmeier's hire at Alabama would also make for a rather seamless transition at Alabama as Nussiemer would be replacing the same man he replaced at Fresno State in 2008 --- Jim McElwain, now the head coach at Colorado State.

As for Tosh Lupoi, nothing new on that front, though ESPN.com's Greg Biggins Tweeted last night that he heard that Cal plans "to take care of'' Lupoi to keep him there.

And I'm thinking you weren't burdened with an overabundance of schooling.

Turncloak!

Word is that Coach Nussmeier has accepted the offer to be Alabama's new OC and QB coach within the last hour.
