Title: Syfy Channel 2013 Upfronts
Post by: Saxon on April 11, 2013, 01:08:31 PM
A lot of super interesting sounding tweets yesterday. But the one that caught my eye was about a new 'reality show' from the same producers as 'Jersey Shore', called 'Fandamonium'. huh. Nearly two years ago, Jessi was in the running for a show called "Fandom Rising", from the same producers, thru 'NBC/Universal'. They went so far as to send her a tentative contract and confidentiality letter. A year after that, with no word from them, they contacted her when she'd just moved to LA. All the things she talked about in her application and video audition were different (including the loss of her workshop when Gingi and Jon moved here and Jessi was forced to give up the studio apartment.). After talking to the casting people and the guy being a jerk to her and telling her off when she told him there was NO WAY she could have the film crew come to her 'home' cuz she was literally sleeping on a friend's couch and she'd been asked to work a Comic/Horror Con when they wanted to come. So, we figured it wasn't going to happen. Then, out of the blue, I get a call from a gal asking if she was still interested in taking part in the show...so I left Jessi a test (she was on set at the time), and she talked to the gal and they emailed back and forth. The other day, I told her she should send the gal a message asking if anything new was happening, and she was told to expect an email. She had an appt. for an interview yesterday....just as the tweets were rolling in and I saw the one that sounded way too familiar.

Here is what Television Without Pity said:

Fandemonium
Premise: Remember Jersey Shore? Well, here's the Syfy version (produced, coincidentally enough, by the Shore team): a group of nerds are thrown together in a house and hijinks supposedly ensue. Expect a higher level of vocabulary and a hell of a lot less sex.
Verdict: Just... no. TBS's King of the Nerds was already painful enough and this one doesn't even have the competition aspect that at least gave those dorks something useful to do.
Second Screen Experience: The network-described "adorkable" cast will be available to interact with via Google Hangouts if you care to do so.

Jessi said she thinks things went well. The guy who she reported to was the head of the casting/production crew. She thought the other people in the room were 'suits', but later realized they too were potential cast! The guy gushed over 'OH! This is our Tank Girl!!'...then to them all, "Now, when you go in, remember, High Energy! Show us your personality! Now she (motioning to Jessi), won't have any trouble with that!" *that's when Jess realized they were all being interviewed on camera*. She doesn't have much info on the show, other than what the blurbs have...they flew people in, so those peeps were being processed first (medical and psych evals). But they asked her to fill out basic health stuff (meds, food allergies), and even asked for a list of "must have" foods for the stocked fridge! She's supposed to go back in within a couple of days to do her 'tests'. (some people had already given blood yesterday when she arrived, since they had to fly back to where ever).

So, prayers please! I know they will want to cause tension for 'entertainment sake', and they'll surely jump on her statements of being a "Conservative, Christian Virgin". They'll undoubtedly try to push those issues...either by putting her in a roommate situation with a total atheist slut or a really gorgeous guy (one who looks like the dread head guy from that Stargate series, or Isaiah Mustafa *the Old Spice dude!!), who will be a flirtatious distraction! heh.

I've always prayed for whatever God wants her to do. Open the doors that need to be opened, close those that should be closed. Everything for His Glory and the best will come to her!

IF they use her, and production starts soon, I hope they follow her and any other Comic Con folks to SDCC...how cool will that be? Of course, I'll have to figure out how I'm gonna get down there and around on my own.  :-\

This sounds like it was MADE for Jessi!

Speaking of crappy reality shows on SyFyLus...

Deep South Paranormal. Think Duck Dynasty meets Ghost Hunters.

The bad thing about any reality show is the 'make fun of' factor. With Jersey Shore, normal people are disgusted by it. Like-minded party sluts are fascinated and want to emulate it! So, if that holds true for this, all the geeks/fans we know should like it...and those who are haters gonna hate!

It does sound like that second blurb was describing Jessi and her foray into the acting world amidst her fan girl activities (including working at cons!). Since it describes her so perfectly, I hope they use her. I was dying to know how many of the geeks in the room w/ her had been sent the paper work over a year ago!

I know how many people HATE reality shows...and the more I learn about tv and the making of aspects, the more I realize that reality shows are anything but REAL...but if Jessi wants to live and work in LA she can't pass this up. In fact, when she first submitted for it, and they contacted her right away, she was ready to jump on it. Back in the old days, fledgeling actors would appear on game shows to get screen time. Now? Reality shows! But when the old casting people were being jerks to her and she was getting work, she didn't want to mess with them anymore. After she did Glee and it had been weeks since they'd used her I suggested she try another 'Reality Show' casting call, and she said, 'I think doing a RS would be a step back'. After months of nothing from Glee, and then the show itself calling her, she jumped on it! Some actors resort to porn...so it could be worse!  :spitdrink:

I will watch it because Jessi's in it. I started watching Glee again because she was in it. But I despise so-called reality TV. Because it is less real than the current occupant of the White House.

The good news is:

Y'all don't have to watch a crappy reality show.

The bad news is:

They called Jessi and told her she wasn't going to be 'continuing in the process'.

The caller did add that things could change, but for now, she wouldn't be moving forward.

I feel bad for her, but we keep praying that the right doors open for her at the right time. This just felt like it was falling into place...so who knows. She was on the 'short list' of 12, so, if someone drops out, doesn't work out, or they decide to bring in a new person for some reason, I guess it's still a possibility. I don't know why they'd tell her little bit about 'change'. We'll see.

So, for now, we just gotta hope they call her back for next season's Glee. It should start filming in June. The PA already posted on the "Adam's Apples" FB the 'good news' that the show was renewed for two more years, and 'hope to see you all soon!'. huh.

That's too bad. As crappy as most reality shows are, you can make a name for yourself if you are on one. Hopefully Glee works out.

Thanks.

She's back at the first place she stayed when she moved down to LA, so that's good for her in a lot of ways. He friend/landlady Donna is the one who submitted her for Glee. So, maybe she can help her out in other ways. Right now, they are setting her up with another casting service. It really is who you know in so many ways.
