That is very bizarre. Started out as a little lie that grew bigger and bigger.

:um:

I guess I could buy that he really did meet her online and started talking about her to his friends and family and then at a latter date he finds out that she is not real and is too embarrassed to tell everyone what a dumbass he was, so he starts lying so he doesn't have to tell the truth. From there the lie grows and grows until he has to have her die to end it all.

Or he's a just dumbass.

Maybe this causes his draft stock to fall and the Seahawks can pick him up in the third/fourth round. He still is a hell of a football player.

On Reddit folks have a theory that maybe he's gay and used her as a way of hiding a real relationship from his family and teammates?  ???

WHOA. I am no longer the most famous Mormon to invent an always-suspiciously-absent "girlfriend" in college.

The Lennay Kay account is a fake account. It was created yesterday.

So many questions need to be answered. In my mind I am still not sure if Manti is at the root of this or if he fell for an online scam and then lied because he was too embarrassed to admit it and then the lies got out of hand. I am leaning toward the latter.

The "dumb jock" stereotype exists for a reason

This has got to be the dumbest story I have ever read. Who calls someone his girlfriend for years when he
has never met her?  Mentally this kid has a screw loose.

Seeing as drafting a player is a multi-million dollar investment , just how far down will Manti fall ?

Honesty I don't think he will fall out of the first round. Nothing he did would/should have any negative effect on any team that drafts him. Will fans make fun of him? Sure, but if he produces on the field they will eventually file it away. Manti will have to live with the questions forever, but being a gifted athlete has it's privileges and one of them is people overlooking your failings, up to a point.

QuoteRonaiah Tuiasosopo fell in love with Manti Te'o and said all his energy went into pretending to be the woman the Notre Dame linebacker came to know as Lennay Kekua.
