Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse... but you take a boat in the air that you don't love... she'll shake you off just as sure as the turn of the worlds. Love keeps her in the air when she ought to fall down... tells you she's hurting before she keels. Makes her a home.  -Mal

Sometimes it's who you know, a fateful chance meeting, Idol, or pounding the pavement and "paying your dues" for years and years.

Even if you get the deal, it doesn't mean it's going to last.

Case in point: I watched the remastered Behind the Music on Meat Loaf. Industry peeps thought Bat of the Hell was never going to do well at all. It was 1977, on the cusp of new wave/punk and disco. It was hugely dramatic and long. But it became a smash. People connected with Meat and the songs. But Meat (r/n Marvin) spiraled out of control. He went from having everything to declaring bankruptcy to a comeback that people said would never happen. Bat Out of Hell II? "I Would Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That) won Meat a Grammy for best rock solo performance. I heart Meat.

Many Idol contestants released albums prior to trying out on Idol, but never hit it big. Some are still waiting, even after being on Idol!

What's the lesson? You just never know what's going to happen.

YES! Sorry Paige, but you had to go.
And I'm thinking you weren't burdened with an overabundance of schooling.

Siobhan ~ "Through the Fire"
I like the beginning and toward the end. Got a little funky nasally in the middle. Crazy thing is she could probably take on Chaka Khan.

Casey was ok. Michael sings great. Didi, eh. Not feeling her. She's very pretty though.

Is Lee closing the show??  :woohoo:

nope!

The show finally started for me when Andrew performed "Forever." I was even singing along.

Lee finally had his moment (I've enjoyed his performances), Crystal was very pretty and was lovely on the piano singing Gladys Knight. Aaron was decent, but like you saw in the preview, when Usher sings, he knows what he's talking about. Usher is the man.

So Andrew, Lee and Crystal were my faves.

Siobhan MagnusThrough the Fire My least favorite performance from her. She looked so sad/pissed at the end of the critique

Casey James Hold On, I'm Coming He looks like he's having a lot of fun singing this song and is doing it pretty well. Nice job.  :headbang: I agree with Ellen and Kara about his range, but I also agree with Simon that this was his best so far.

Michael LyncheReady for Love Wow! That was very good. The haunting tone gave me chills. Very, very nice performance. I agree with Simon when he said this was his first "believable" performance.

Didi BenihamWhat Becomes of the Broken Hearted It's like there is something, unconsciously,  restraining the best part of her voice and, whatever that is, gets her off track and then she consciously holds herself back and gets further off track. She has the voice and should be able to kill this song. Sorry sweetie, but it was not very good.

Tim UrbanSweet Love Not bad for him. He's trying real hard, but I don't think he's got "it" and it doesn't matter how hard he tries. Please get voted off. Sorry man, but that's the way I feel.

Andrew Garcia Forever God I love the tone of his voice! Really good job. I hope he stays on this course.  Mama Garcia was funny.

Katie StevesChain of Fools Not a fan of the song, but I think she sang it really well and added a little of attitude that seemed, for the most part, believable. Not bad.

Lee DeWyzeTreat Her Like A Lady That rocked!  :headbang: Moment indeed! About 30 seconds in I realized I had a BIG smile on my face and was moving to the music.

Crystal BowersoxMidnight Train to Georgia Another spontaneous smile from Spooky! Very, very good. Damn! Girl looks awesome as well.  :praise:

Aaron KellyAin't No Sunshine A competent performance? He sang it well, but... I don't know. I don't know what it is about Aaron, maybe it the fact that he's 11 ( Ellen).

My fav performances of the night in order.

Lee has got a fantastic voice. I'm finding it interesting this year that the two best singers,
Crystal and Lee are both so unsure of themselves and so suppressed in their personalities.
Lee looks like he was beaten down by someone at one time that has given him a bad inferiority
complex and Crystal is hard to figure out as to why she is so subdued. I'm sure her health issue
is a factor but her family looks pretty upbeat. I get the impression some hard knocks, being
a single mom and probably other things have played a part.

I would love to hear them sing a duo.

Why does everyone think Lynche is so great? His voice isn't original, unique or even special.

I was thinking the same thing last night. I think they'd sound great together.

I don't think he's great (I doubt he'll win. I'll say he makes the top 5 of this group), but I do like his voice and enjoyed last nights performance. With Michael it's the consistency of his performances that will keep him in this competition and probably in the top 5 or so.  That being said, if Aaron and Katie figure out what they are doing, they can knock him out of the top 5. They have much better voices than him, but lack his experience as a performer.

I'll have to listen to some of the others. I don't watch the show, I just listen to the songs
on You Tube.

I think my suspicions about Crystal and a life of hard knocks was answered in a video I
found on You tube of her singing "A Farmer's Daughter".  Apparently her mother was less
then supportive and sounds like an alcoholic and abuser. Maybe this has been answered
already on the show but this song sounds pretty biographical.

I hope Crystal uses this show to better her life. I hope she's does not end up like season 4 contestant Jessica Sierra. She went down a dark path. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jessica_Sierra

I get the impression she has a good head on her shoulders and had to grow up at a very
young age. She seems sincere and mature and with a voice like hers should be on her way
win or lose. It's hard to know but I wish her the best. Her health issues could dramatically
shorten her life and I hope she will take what ever fame comes her way and uses it to secure
this for her and her son.
