Title: Firefly reunion from Comic-Con to air on Science Channel
Post by: TinkTanker on July 11, 2012, 12:07:31 PM
Firefly is getting a shiny new TV special.

To celebrate the cult-favorite sci-fi drama's 10th anniversary, Science Channel is shooting a new one-hour special chronicling the Firefly cast reunion at Comic-Con this week.

The special — titled Browncoats Unite — will include footage from Friday's reunion panel, featuring several members of the original team including star Nathan Fillion and creator Joss Whedon. Plus, the cast is shooting an in-depth behind-the-scenes roundtable interview that will dive deeper into burning fan questions about the beloved series. Both the panel and the roundtable will be moderated by Entertainment Weekly's own Jeff Jensen.

"Firefly is a landmark work of science fiction and a favorite with our viewers," said Debbie Myers, general manager and executive vp of Science. "Ever since it premiered on Science, fans have asked us to do something special to mark its 10-year anniversary. With this signature celebration, punctuated by Browncoats Unite, we will connect the minds behind this classic franchise with its legions of passionate fans."

In addition to Whedon and Fillion, Friday's 12:30 p.m. Comic-Con panel will feature Alan Tudyk, Summer Glau, Adam Baldwin, Sean Maher, showrunner Tim Minear, and writer Jose Molina. The special, produced by Pangolin Pictures, promises to unearth defining memories and first-person accounts of making the show from both sides of the camera. Browncoats Unite will air on Science, along with an all-day marathon of Firefly episodes, on Sunday, Nov. 11.

Thank you! I was there and I was so overwhelmed with emotion I can't remember what all was said. I just remember all the love that was felt all around. It was thick and warm and electrifying. I did miss those unable to make it.

Totally worth the lack of sleep.

Oh so much nostalgia going on with that. I need to watch again which might be what
I do the next few weeks since my near vision will be shot all to hell for awhile until I
get some new glasses. I might be doing TV marathons. :)

You know what really makes me mad is that I didn't get to see more of Nathan when
he looked like this in this show. Of all the cast members, this last 10 years has really showed
on his face. Everyone else has aged pretty gracefully. He was so goodlooking in Firefly
and if this ever comes back I will miss that face.

I do agree with you. However did you ever see his baby face on One Life to Live? Google JoeyBuchanan and Dorian Lord.

That is the face I miss the most.

Then there was the show: Two Guys and a Girl. Nathan was not one of the 2 guys he was the girl's boyfriend.

That all being said that as bad as Nathan may look on camera, in person he is still quite breathtaking. Add to that his natural charm and charisma, Forget about itNathan is swoon worthy.

Yes, he is still very goodlooking and looks much better at those cons than in Castle. I
think some of that is lighting.

No, I don't remember him in One Life to Live but I should since my Mother and Aunt
watched those shows and it was on when I visited.

I do remember Two Guys and a Girl. When we had a Brigade Command one of the wives
of one of the Company Commanders was the sister of one of the two male leads. I can't
remember now which one. She was always talking about the show and knew Nathan but
of course he wasn't even on my radar then.

You Tube is your friend.
I fell in love with Nathan Fillion from the first second I laid eyes on him. He embodied the character of the little boy who grew up.

After Firefly was canceled. I had it on VHS tape that I had recorded. I would play it as I was going to sleep that first year. So sometimes I would start to fall asleep watching Serenity because of that.

Firefly is thoroughly enjoyable and soothing.

I never really got into Firefly when it aired. I wanted to, but stuff kept happening. The first episode Ann decides I need to go cook supper halfway through it, so I missed a lot of the second half. Then it was on sporadically (as well all know all too well) and when the last one (the pilot) aired, I was terribly, terribly sick with the flu and Ann let me sleep. This was pre-DVR and for some reason we just didn't tape the episodes. During the time between the first and the last, we knew it wouldn't last so I didn't get too attached. I held it at arm's length while trying to embrace it at the same time.

Then the unaired episodes started leaking on the interwebs and we got them and I fell in love. Heard about some place where where ~somebody~ claiming to be one of the actors liked to hang out, stuck my head in, poked around a bit and was welcomed almost immediately by Digby. I met the rest of you shiny people as time went on, some of the shiniest people I would ever meet. The rest, as they say...

The only originally aired episodes I watched were Objects in Space (still my favorite) and the pilot. The DVD is what really drew me in.

There have been HUGE cons everywhere. These guys were 'big' with most of us before the did the Comic Con during the filming of Serenity.

My first was when the Firefly DVD was released and we went to LA. Met some of new family there! *snuffle*

First time I met Adam. He jumped down off the stage to give me and Jessi hugs when I told him who we were. I was so sad not to see him this time at SDCC. First time in years that I've not gotten a hug, or a smooch on the cheek, or even a wave/kiss blown to me from the stage. He's always acknowledged me and/or Jessi. Was hoping to say hi to him at the Nerd HQ signing, but he left before the line ended.  :(

I was sad they didn't interview Ron like they did with the gals. Also sad that they didn't even have Joss. I know he was busy at Comic Con, sleep deprived to the point of some very strange ramblings...but you'd think Science Channel could have tracked him down somewhere, later.

Jose tweeted that they could have made the special two hours long, since they had a lot more taped...hoping that they have that, maybe for sale later on. The only things I'd never heard were the confirmation of our guess about Inara, and the dark eps that were bandied about. Just having them all together was awesome. When they showed the still of Joss directing, I yelled out, "That's Rosie's scene!!!". Tom was like, 'yep'. Jessi didn't get to watch it, since the place she lives doesn't have cable. I dvr'd it.

I like that you can see a shot of Nathan really crying on stage during the SDCC panel...trust me, he started much earlier and they ALL got misty! The whole place was crying...I was bawling like a baby!! I'd actually started much earlier, when I was given passes to get into it. My benefactor always has me do the 'sealed lips, throw away the key', so I can't shout from the roof tops just how much he's blessed me.

Last night, Chris Buchanan tweeted a 'you're welcome' about the chance to be in the movie and walk the red carpet. He got how important it was to have the 'old timers' involved. Jewel also 'get it'. Poor Alan, I still think he's clueless!! lol. Adam also knows, personally, how much 'we' were all there, all along. Dang, now I'm snuffly again!

Joss Whedon is a self-avowed socialist who campaigned for and donated to Barack Obama. Just accept it. Best to ignore his political leanings as well as those of Nathan's and enjoy the show. Just sayin'.

Yes but even for Joss what he and how he spoke at ComicCon was uncensored rambling due to sleep deprivation.

I am certain that he was more than likely sleeping or just waking up during the roundtable discussion. He didn't leave the line until about 4am. Who knows when he got to sleep. I enjoyed Gina a lot. She was beautiful. Lesson learned about betting against Joss.

Can't beleive the secrets Tim Revealed. I loved Alan's reaction to the DARK stuff.

And that's when you usually get what they are really thinking. Which is why it is often used in interrogation. And why libs think it is torture.

I was glad to learn something new, that was pretty cool. Made me really sad for what we missed.

I wanted more, a whole lot more! But I loved that Jewel and Joss explained the Firefly extended family ~ "they meet each other at conventions" ~ it was something I echoed to A.B. that the camaraderie they experienced on set expanded out into the world. I was introduced to FF around the time they were filming the movie and it was such an exciting time. Reading people's experiences on set ~ the guy who was an Alliance officer posted on fireflyfans.net ~ and then the whole Universal Day! I was considering flying out to Comic Con for the day, but I ended up going to D*C instead.

The discussion about the dark eps was intense....and I yelled "Rosie!" too. ;)
