Burn and Dead Souls are phenomenal, but Big Empty is just a true gem. It's slow and moody yet rocks out. I also like It Can't Rain All the Time.

I would counter with Queen of the Damned, only because I got much more mileage out of that than The Crow. The only thing sorely lacking with the QOTD soundtrack is that Jonathan Davis's original recordings as used in the movie were not included.

The Crow is the only other film I've tied with 4 viewings in the theater with Serenity.

I am going to have to give these best soundtrack ever threads more thought...just haven't had the time.

Is it based on how well the music fits the movie or how well YOU like the music? I think both are equally acceptable, as all tastes are subjective. There are plenty of soundtracks out there that I don't own but I know are "acclaimed" that I just don't like the music.

Personally I think Stop Making Sense is one of the best soundtracks of all time, even though it's a live recording. I think Talking Heads are better live than their studio albums and I don't even own any of their albums!

DO NOT GET ME STARTED ON ALL THE LAMBASTES UNCEREMONIOUSLY HURLED AT XANADU. I am still ticked off that it made "The 50 Worst Films of all Time" list and didn't beat some of the more deserving God-awful movies. No, it wasn't popular, it was Razzied, it was cheesy, but it still had a kick-ass soundtrack and a plot about following your dreams. No Michael Beck couldn't dance worth a gao se but that's why ONJ, Gene Kelly and real dancers did.

There are a handful of movies that encapsulate the 80s, Xanadu and Buckaroo Banzai are among them.

"You know that's right."

And then there's Psych, the TV show dedicated to paying homage to the 80s.

Well, so far, 2 of the 3 that I've mentioned are soundtracks that I loved way back when and listened to over and over... And then re-listened to recently and liked just as much...

And then there's the Drive soundtrack which fits both criteria that you mentioned...
