Casting for season three begins

We have heard that the casting for season three began today. Auditions were held this morning in London. We don't, however, know which role or roles they were auditioning for. As usual, the whole thing is very top secret. If anyone has any info they'd be willing to share, please drop us a line!
One casting rumor we just heard comes from @JonasRJakobsen, who tweeted to us, "I was told by an agent that Norwegian actor Kristofer Hivju is auditioning for an unknown role." It's gotta be Tormund Giantsbane, right? I mean, look at him!
UPDATE: Another rumor: according to commenter Draig, they are casting Shireen Baratheon. They are looking for an 11-year old girl. Hundreds of young actresses have already been seen. Auditions happened in London about two weeks ago, recalls to come.
UPDATE 2: Another role that is rumored to be currently casting is Daario Naharis. And, according to someone who has seen the casting breakdown, the producers are looking for "any ethnicity, except Caucasian".

Extras casting call provides more S3 clues
by Winter Is Coming
The casting call for extras for season three has gone out from Extras NI and it provides some tantalizing clues about what may be in store for season three. Here is the casting call:
We require people of all ages & all shapes & sizes, but this year we specifically need:
MALES:
- with short length hair of every colour
- with shoulder length hair of every colour
- all hair lengths with and without good beards
- with short blonde hair
- with long dark hair & beards
- sporty, strong & fit types
- any male amputees
We're always interested in men:
- with special skills: archery, combat-skills, martial arts, military experience, rowers & sailors
- in smaller numbers we generally require: farmers, butchers, carpenters, iron workers, blacksmiths, weavers, medieval musicians
FEMALES:
- With long natural undyed hair
And men or women that are over 18 and that are under 5ft in height. We always love to see unusual, timeless and character-full faces.
If you live in Northern Ireland and would like to apply, there are more details at the link above.
Winter Is Coming: Most of that is pretty standard stuff...
except for that last bit about men and women over 18 and under 5ft in height. As Westeros.org speculates, there are a number of things this could be for... but only one really makes sense and it is one I think many fans are going to like. Spoilers ahead...
It seems likely they are looking for extras to play the diminutive crannogmen, which would mean the Reeds are in! The prevailing theory is that a group from Greywater Watch will be sent to Winterfell, including Jojen and Meera, and that they will run into Bran and Co. along the way. Either that or David & Dan will pad Bran's journey even more and have him head to Greywater Watch first, where he will meet Meera and Jojen. Eventually, the latter will tell him they need to go north and their journey will commence from there. But that would mean having to build a new set and possibly having to cast Howland Reed, so that seems much less likely than the other theory. Either way, this whole thing is a good sign for all you Reed fans!
Some of the comments seems to make sense as well like them looking for actors that will look big standing next to giant if they aren't going to CGI them, or Bran dreaming of The Children of the Forrest.
I saw a news bit that Catelyn's brother Edmund Tully had been cast, but I forgot where (and am too lazy to search again).
Either way, this whole thing is a good sign for all you Reed fans!

Season three casting in full swing
By Winter Is Coming on May 22, 2012
Casting continues for season three of Game of Thrones. In fact, we have heard whispers of a few roles already being filled. Presumably once the contracts are ironed out, we will receive an announcement.
Another leaked audition (that has since been taken down) showed a French actor auditioning for the role of Mero, aka the Titan's Bastard, captain of the sellsword company, the Second Sons. We already know they are casting Daario, now it looks like at least one other sellsword captain will be cast.
Another audition report comes from Twitter, where actor Cas Anvar tweets that he has an audition for Game of Thrones tomorrow. Which role do you think he is auditioning for? Daario? The Red Viper? Speculate away!
http://winteriscoming.net/2012/05/season-three-casting-in-full-swing/ (http://winteriscoming.net/2012/05/season-three-casting-in-full-swing/)
And so it begins. The first confirmed actor to be joining the Game of Thrones cast next season is Kerry Ingram as Shireen Baratheon. Kerry has few credits, but they're noteworthy: she won an Olivier award for her role in the musical Matilda, and she will appear in the upcoming film Les Miserables (which shares Game of Thrones casting director Nina Gold). Shireen, of course, is the only daughter of Stannis Baratheon. [via Winter Is Coming]

'GAME OF THRONES' SEASON 3 CASTS A NEW LADY
Chances are, it'll be a good long while before we start seeing anything truly substantial from 'Game of Thrones' season 3, even this summer in San Diego at Comic-Con 2012. Earlier today we learned that a new location had been added to the epic George R.R. Martin series' international production, and now we've gotten confirmation that a young actress has been cast to play a well-known book character. Who is this mysterious lady, and what might her casting mean for the series?
SpoilerTV has gotten wind of the fact that young actress Charlotte Hope has been cast in the third season of HBO's 'Game of Thrones,' which will begin production this July in Belfast, Ireland. Hope will play a character named "Myranda," which is speculated to be that of "Myranda Royce," daughter of Lord Nestor Royce, and keeper of the Gates of the Moon for her father.
It's also been speculated that her character may be combined with that of Mya Stone, who was excised from the first season of 'Game of Thrones,' and might be more age-appropriate for Charlotte Hope. Season 3 of 'Game of Thrones' will adapt its material from George R.R. Martin's third book in the 'Song of Ice and Fire Series,' entitled 'A Storm of Swords,' which was long enough to merit dividing into the HBO program's fourth season as well. In 'A Storm of Swords,' Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) thinks about being banished from Kings' Landing to the Gates of the Moon, having heard that Myranda keeps a lively household.
What say you, , 'Game of Thrones' fans? Is Charlotte Hope right for the part of Myranda? What are you hoping to see from 'Game of Thrones' season 3 when the it arrives next spring, or even at Comic-Con 2012? Speak up in the comments below!

HBO is treating fans of the Emmy-winning drama Game of Thrones with some tantalizing new details on the upcoming third season, which begins production this month. The network has released info on new characters and cast that will appear this season – as well as the addition of a brand new filming location.
In addition to Dubrovnik, Croatia, the series will be adding Morocco to the list of filming locations, and will continue to film scenes set north of the Wall in Iceland, on the Vatnajökull glacier. Game of Thrones' key production hub will remain in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and will again receive support from the Northern Ireland Screen fund.

Consisting of ten episodes, season three will be adapted from parts of A Storm of Swords, the third of the A Song of Ice and Fire novels written by George R. R. Martin. Fans of the novels will notice that some characters long overdue will be making their first appearance next year:
Game of Thrones Season 3 Characters
Ser Brynden "The Blackfish" Tully: Catelyn's Stark's uncle.
Edmure Tully: A brash young member of the Tully family.
Mance Rayder: The former member of the Night's Watch who became the leader of the Wildlings and "King Beyond the Wall".
Daario Naharis: A confident and seductive warrior.
Myranda Royce: A young lady who lives in a great castle called The Gates of the Moon
Jojen Reed and Meera Reed: A teenage Crannogman brother and sister duo said to have "special insights". They are the children of Stark bannerman, Howland Reed.
Lady Selyse Florent: Stannis Baratheon's wife.
Shireen: Stannis' young daughter.
Olenna Redwyne (The Queen of Thorns): Margaery Tyrell's sharp-witted grandmother.
Beric Dondarrion: A skilled knight who is the leader of the outlaw group called Brotherhood Without Banners.
Thoros of Myr: A red priest who follows the same religion as Melisandre.
Tormund Giantsbane: A Wildling raider.
Series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss claim that in order to keep some mystery this is not a complete list and certain casting announcements are going to be withheld for now; it has been revealed that Clive Russell (the Sherlock Holmes films) will take the role of Black Fish. Joining Russell are relative newcomers such as English actresses Charlotte Hope (playing Myranda) and Kerry Ingram (playing Shireen).

Right now there are plenty of unconfirmed rumors buzzing around, and despite how awesome they sound we'll just stick to what we know. But with the Game of Thrones Comic-Con panel taking place on Friday, July 13 from 2:45 p.m. – 3:45 p.m. in Hall H, we might just get a few more tidbits to chew on.
This year, the Game of Thrones panel will feature: Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy), Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), Michelle Fairley (Catelyn Stark), Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), and Richard Madden (Robb Stark). George R. R. Martin, who also serves as a co-executive producer and writer on the series, will moderate the panel with executive producer Carolyn Strauss.

That's too bad. It's charming as hell. And clever. All the special features on the DVDs have an interview with McShane with Swedgin hair and beard. ;) Still, from what I've read, Lovejoy is not for everyone! It's kitschy but fun. We're finally up to season 6, and we own S1-S4.
I watch anything Ian's in ~ his Tai Lung turn in Kung Fu Panda was AWE-some. It's that gruff voice. I even watched an old 1969 flick called "If it's Tuesday It Must Be Belgium" about him as a tour guide who oversees tours through Europe, co-starring a very GORGEOUS Suzanne Pleshette (holy moley she was pretty in that movie!). I'm so glad he won a Golden Globe for Deadwood.
There is always Deadwood.

You will of course know him best from Rome, where he played Julius Caesar. After Tobias Menzes (as Edmure), this is the second Rome alumnus joining the cast.
Hear Me Roar: Wow, that one got me excited! When other candidates and actors we speculated about definitely dropped out, I felt bad, but HBO managed to get a big name for the role in the end, and one that is, for my money, a great fit.

A (Brief) Round Table with Ser Barristan
nicklarter
9/22/12 06:37 pm
Previous Entry Add to Memories Share
One of the nice innovations for TitanCon 2012 was the addition of round tables with the Game of Thrones cast members who were attending. I was lucky enough to be pulled out of the hat with nine others for the one with Ian McElhinney, who plays Ser Barristan Selmy of course. Naturally I was absolutely delighted to get this sort of opportunity.
I'm sure it's no surprise to anyone for me to note that Ian was unfailingly courteous, hugely articulate and exuded considerable magnetism as he held court. He arrived sporting a beard, but was quick to point out that he had grown it for another job and didn't know if it would be required for S3 yet, having not so far shot any of his scenes, although he had read his scripts.
Obviously there were few specifics talked about as to what was coming, thanks to the double-whammy of an HBO minder in attendance (a thankless job, done with silent good humour this day by Ryan Marshall, for those who follow him on Twitter) plus the TitanCon spoiler policy of no discussion beyond A Clash of Kings. However we talked about where Ser Barristan might end up at the end of it all and Ian expressed a preference for him surviving and having his niche in the 'new world order' whatever that might turn out to be. He said he had met GRRM a couple of years ago, but didn't know what was lined up for Barristan; he didn't even know whether Barristan would remain a PoV character in the last two books or whether he would get any big combat moments.
In terms of how Ian is interpreting the character, we discussed loyalty. Ian reckoned Barristan's dilemma was whether or not the demands of being a Kingsguard had meant that he had had to be loyal to the right people during his life - a madman then a drunk. A good insight was his observation that had Barristan not been sacked, he would certainly have remained loyal to Joffrey. He reckoned that as things stood now Barristan certainly couldn't wait for the day when someone did away with Cersei.
As far as other characters were concerned, he said he was most interested as to where Tyrion might end up.
Away from the Game of Thrones plot, Ian noted the hugely beneficial impact that the series was having on the growth of the Northern Ireland film and TV industry and gave us the sobering story of doing TV work back in the 1980's. He noted that as a younger actor he often played police officers; most of the time back then, Northern English cities like Manchester or Sheffield stood in for Belfast, but when filming was done in Belfast itself, anyone playing a police officer role was kept out of sight until as close as possible to the take and was covered up again immediately afterwards.
The thirty minutes of the round table flew by. I don't think it any exaggeration to suggest we could have gone on for three or four times that. Clearly that would be unrealistic - I can appreciate that such special guests shouldn't be overstretched, but thirty? C'mon guys, make it forty or forty five minutes next year.
I hope he doesn't have any difficult lines to remember.

'Game of Thrones' gets super-sized season 3 -- EXCLUSIVE
by James Hibberd
(http://img2.timeinc.net/ew/i/2012/12/17/games-of-thrones.jpg)
The biggest production on TV of one of the biggest stories in fantasy is about to get a little, well, bigger.
The Game of Thrones team is creating a "super-sized" third season of the hit series.
With showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss tackling content from the first half (roughly) of author George R.R. Martin's largest Song of Ice and Fire novel (the 973-page fan-favorite A Storm of Swords), the writer-producer duo are delivering slightly longer episodes to the network. There's still 10, but you'll get a little more each week than previous seasons.
"There's almost another full episode's worth of extra minutes spread across the season," Weiss says. "One of the great liberties with HBO is we're not forced to come in at a specific time. We can't be under 50 minutes or over 60, but that gives us a lot of flexibility."
"A super-sized season, as befitting Storm of Swords," Benioff adds. "Last year we had a lot of 52-minute episodes. This year is a lot of 56, 57."
In fact, the third season finale is expected to run more than an hour — a move that requires special permission from the network (previously, the show's pilot and its second season finale exceeded an hour). Episodes are still being calibrated so exact times could change, but HBO and producers are confident the season will deliver more Thrones than ever before. Says HBO in a statement: "All 10 episodes gained a minute or two from past seasons with the finale very possibly exceeding 60 minutes."
"So for people clamoring for another episode, it's in there," Weiss says. "It's just been cut into tiny pieces."
Game of Thrones returns March 31, with the season two DVD out Feb. 19.
I don't think 3 or 4 minutes and ep is super-sized, but I'll take it.

S4 - new characters
HBO has confirmed the first list of some of the new characters that will be cast for Season Four of Game of Thrones:
Aeron Greyjoy aka Damphair.
Euron Greyjoy.
Victarion Greyjoy.
Oberyn Martell aka The Red Viper.
Ellaria Sand.
Mace Tyrell.
Randyll Tarly.
Taena Merryweather.
Strong Belwas.
Brown Ben Plumm.
Dareon.
The Kindly Man.
The Waif.
Which ones are you most eager to see and who do you think should play them?
Season Four will start casting right after the first episode of Season Three airs on March 31st, 2013. Both seasons are based on the third novel of A Song of Ice and Fire, A Storm of Swords.
:like:
The Kindly Man? I guess they are skipping a lot of Arya's journey in Westeros before she head across the water to Bravos. As far as I can remember The Kindly Man doesn't show up until A Feast for Crows.

Creator George R.R. Martin reveals what he's most intrigued about seeing in season three:
Well, excited and apprehensive is the Red Wedding. I don't know if you want to write about that without spoiling things. I think it will have more impact if it takes people unexpectedly, but certainly that's the scene that both myself and I think most of my hardcore fans are looking forward to with a mixture of anticipation and apprehension.
It's so graphic in the novel. You've probably seen it already. Do you feel it captures what you wrote? Were there any major changes to that?
I have not seen it. I've been very busy writing the new books and doing other projects this year, so I did not have a chance to visit the set. At one point I was looking at going over there when they were filming it and maybe even being one of the casualties, but I just couldn't find the time to get over to Belfast, so I haven't seen any of it. I've seen no footage this season.
I am looking forward to the RW episode. Mostly because I will be watching with some folks who have not read the books and I can't wait to see their reactions.

Pretty good opener. Loved the Unsullied and the dragons being bigger.
Kept going back and forth between this and TWD. Aside from the gorgeous scene (obviously shot by a camera crane) descending on the lovely Emilia Clarke, which I think was in the trailer anyway, I was pretty bored. Have fun watching.

I'm way comfortable with melding the two .
My favorite exchange from the latest episode.
----------
Jamie: There it is. That's the look. I've seen it for 17 years on face after face. You all despise me. Kingslayer. Oath breaker. Man without honor. You've heard of wildfire?
Brienne: Of course.
Jamie: The mad king was obsessed with it. He loved to watch people burn--the way their skin blackened, blistered, melted off their bones. He burned lords he didn't like; he burned Hands that disobeyed him; he burned anyone that was against him. Before long, half the country was against him. Aerys saw traitors everywhere, so he had his pyromancer place caches of wildfire all over the city: beneath the Sept of Baelor, the slums of flea bottom, under houses, stables, taverns, even beneath the Red Keep itself. Finally, the day of reckoning came.
Robert Baratheon marched upon the capitol after his victory at the Trident. But my father arrived first with the whole Lannister army at his back, promising to defend the city against the rebels. I knew my father better than that. He's never been one to pick the losing side. I told the mad king as much. I urged him to surrender peacefully. But the king didn't listen to me, didn't listen to Varys, who tried to warn him. But he did listen to Grandmaester Pycell, that grey sunken cunt. "You can trust the Lannisters," he said. "The Lannisters have always been true friends of the crown." So, we opened the gates and my father sacked the city.
Once again I came to the king begging him to surrender. He told me to bring him my father's head. Then he turned to his pyromancer, "Burn them all," he said. "Burn them in their homes, burn them in their beds." Tell me, if your precious Renly commanded you to kill your own father and stand by while thousands of men women and children were burned alive, would you have done it? Would you have kept your oath then?
First, I killed the pyromancer, and then when the king turned to flee I drove my sword into his back. "Burn them all," he kept saying. "Burn them all." I don't think he expected to die. He meant to burn with the rest of us and rise again reborn as a dragon and turn his enemies to ash. I slit his throat to make sure that didn't happen. That's where Ned Stark found me.
Brienne: If this is true, why didn't you tell anyone? Why didn't you tell Lord Stark?
Jamie: Stark. You think the honorable Ned Stark wanted to hear my side? He judged me guilty the moment he set eyes on me. By what right does the wolf judge the lion? By what right?
Jamies fall and Brienn catches him.
Brienne: Help! The Kingslayer!
Jamie: Jaime. My name is Jaime.
My name is Jaime.
Perfect

So what's the deal with Stannis the Mannis's daughter and half her face being burned and being locked up and being all cheerful and stuff? Spoiler whore, so I'm asking.
It's a disease called Greyscale.
QuoteGreyscale is a disease that can leave flesh stiff and dead and the skin cracked and flaking, mottled black and grey and stone-like to the touch. The tongue and lips turn to stone.[1] It generally affects children especially in cold damp climates. The victims are disfigured but could not be touched by the rarer mortal form of the affliction or the grey plague. The wildlings consider people who survive Greyscale unclean.

ETA: I think they keep her hidden from view, because they don't want people to know about the disease.

In the book she has a companion named Patchface. He's the Dragonstone fool/jester. The rhyme/song that Shireen signs over the closing credits are snippits of rhymes that Patchface would say throughout the books. I don't think he will be in the show.

Okay, that's what was throwing me off. I'd read the first hundred pages or so of the second book last year and it was familiar but not quite clicking.
So Selyse Baratheon's three babies in jars had me puzzled (not in the books), but ran across a theory that says the jar babies will be used in Milisandre's ritual instead of the leeches from the books.

I prefer leeches , but you do have that whole "blood of kings" component .

As many of you know George R.R. Martin had a cameo in the original, unaired pilot of Game of Thrones. Ever since then showrunners D&D have been trying to have him make a real cameo but scheduling conflicts have prevented this from happening. Until this Sunday, that is, if the rumors are true.
Rumor has it that Martin makes a cameo in this week's episode, The Bear and the Maiden Fair. There's a lot of evidence for this although most of the cast and crew have been very tight lipped about it:
It was leaked that Martin made a surprise visit to the set a few months ago.
The bear pit scene was filmed in LA, the first scene of the show to ever be shot in the United States. They had to do this because the bear, Bart the Second, is not allowed to leave the country.
Martin was in LA around the the time of the filming of that scene.
This episode is written by Martin himself.
In an interview I can't find right now Martin all but admitted that he'd be showing up on the show sometime this season.
So anyway, I just wanted to give you all a heads up: there might be a balding, bushy-bearded fat man amongst the Bolton guards at Harrenhal this weekend!

I want to see a certain character choke to death (probably next season?). I am thinking it could be the last scene of episode 10. That'd make 9 and 10 pretty epic episodes.

QuoteI know it goes without saying, but I am REALLY going to enjoy watching that little bastard die. I hated Joffrey in the books, but Jack Gleeson's portrayal makes me hate Joffrey in new and different ways. He makes such an amazing smug, douche face. I can't wait to see him turn purple and reach for mommy.

So I wanted to ask Eric if I was going to be scarred by this episode, but figured it was pointless to ask as scarring would be guaranteed. >:D
I watched the Conan clip of the viral fan video reactions on YouTube earlier in the week, which were freakin' hilarious. "Did you guys know about this?!" (Uhh, yeah!) "This is why this is the best Chucking show on TV!"
OK, at first I thought the "Red Wedding" was going to mean
the new bride was going to bleed on her wedding night, but I was SO mistaken...Eric only said that the third book has some effed-up events.
But, this is Episode 9. It is Thrones tradition to turn the audience on their heads.
I knew something was wrong the minute the doors were locked. In my mind I asked, "They're not going to kill EVERYBODY, right?" Then as tensions heightened and Catelyn revealed the chainmaille on her "friend," I knew Mr. Filch was taking revenge for his lack of magical powers in the Potterverse.
I knew Talisa was going to be first. I wasn't prepared for EVERYONE to die. I kept looking away and burying my head in my pillow ~ when the wolves were killed, Eric said I screamed. I looked away when Catelyn was attacked, I saw her fall down though.
Arya, Sansa, Bran and Rickon will never see their mother ever again. So much for a reunion.
Some of my comments after the show: "That Lannister bitch gets to live!" (I really hate Cersei.) "Jamie just loses a hand, poor baby!" Eric: "Everyone who is 'good' seems to die." Me: "So when does Tyrion buy it?"
We were watching our Roku last night and out of nowhere I just uttered, "I can't believe Catelyn Stark is dead." I am not that invested, but I did like Michelle Fairley very much.
The problem with putting everything crazy in the episode prior to the finale is that there might not be any surprises left.
