Well, I feel a little dumber for not realizing this. This author's theory about the appropriately-named episode, Wrong Roads, seems spot on:  Eric Roberts' character was essentially future-Raylan and the old man in the rest home was basically Boyd's future.

Lukewarm to most of the season, but I enjoyed the season finale.  "Bad Luck Boyd" seems like he's completely alone at this point.

I've enjoyed this season - but for people who need more whelming , I read the other day where the writers split the final "last season" over this and next season . So expect a cliff-hanger next week .

The season felt slightly askew to me.  I still enjoy the show.  I certainly don't expect every season to be full of Mag's Apple Pie.
