What'd you think ?
I felt it started lame but ended pretty strong .

It certainly had a "Once More With Feeling" vibe .

( NPH and Nate are a scream )

It starts pretty slow but picks up about the thyme of the big heist.

I didn't know Fillion was in it.  He played that part great.

While I'm biased , I think Nate's the whole package as an actor .

And NPH is just too awesome .

The ex-slayerette wasn't bad herownslf .

I agree it started slow and I kept feeling I missed something at the beginning for some reason.
Nathan was a hoot and really played the tongue in cheek hero part to a tee. He is really buffed
for this part and looks like some weight lifting was involved. Was he playing in something else
at the time that required this? Looks like it will be cute. I just signed up for the season pass on
Itunes so it downloads automatically without having to go through all of that waiting on the freebie
sites.

I loved it from start to finish. I enjoy NPH as Dr. Horrible. I loved the fact he started with the laugh and explained he hired a voice coach. He takes this stuff seriously. :)

It definitely reminds me of Once More With Feelings.

I kept watching over and over.

:haha:

I paid Itunes to automatically download the episodes when they came available and they haven't
done that with the second act yet. I wonder why.

Reactions from Emmy nominees

QuoteNeil Patrick Harris was onstage at 5:40 a.m. to announce the nominees when as a surprise at the end, it was his name called as best supporting actor in a comedy series for CBS' "How I Met Your Mother." Harris called it a "lovely surprise" but downplayed the importance of winning. "We're all trying to do our best at the show, and it's good to put on your bio, but it doesn't hold that much water. The trophy isn't important; it's just nice to give acknowledgment to the show," he said. Harris also talked about his smaller-than-small-screen work on Joss Whedon's just-launched online musical, "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog," and whether a series like that could see an Emmy someday in a new category. "It's odd that I'm way more excited right now about 'Dr. Horrible' than the Emmy nomination," he said, laughing. "It wouldn't surprise me (to see an online TV category) in the future. We're in a tricky, uncharted territory on the Internet. If people know that millions of people will watch it, we're going to see more shows like this. I'm not saying 'Dr. Horrible' is the most high-brow of shows, but it's good. We're not reinventing the theatrical wheel, but it's certainly an amazing 22 minutes of show so far, and I can't wait to see what happens next."

I just now got to watch the first episode (I still can't get the site to work, got it from the link here).

I just keep remembering seeing Nathan, Joss and Felicia walking and talking during the day on the strike line. I kept asking everyone, 'who is the little red head talking to Joss and Nathan? She looks familiar'. heh. I love that we were somehow 'there' when things were jelling for them...how cool is that?

I really love how they've taken the negativity of the strike and made something positive out of it. And fun too.

Still need to watch the next eps.

Is it just me or does anyone else think this is being blown all out of proportion to the result. Yes, it's different in the
way it was distributed but in this day and age something like this should be able to be done and frankly done a little
better than this was. It was cute and fun until Joss decided to do his ghoul thing which is getting pretty stale for me.
I would love to know what in his background gave him this need to introduce death in every work he does so it will be
as hurtful as it can be. It seems to be rather sadistic to his fans, but that's just me.

The singing and songs were good and Nathan really played this the right way I think of all the actors. Everyone seemed
to play this pretty straight except him and he played it for the farce and silliness it was. I don't think he was mocking
Joss's work but he sure came close with that smirky smile.  :)

Glad it got the attention it did since it may be a way of getting more shows of another kind that are of better quality
and will do well in this kind of format. I can see Joss's wheels turning as a way possibly to get more Firefly out there,
since I do believe he would really like to do that. I'm guessing rights may play a part in that though. If this is a launch
to bigger and better then I guess it is all good but for me this was just a baby step and not a real good one.

Maybe a little, but you know Joss and his psycho fans! ;) I do think it's great that he was able to produce a quality short film, with a couple of known actors, with out the help of the studios. He pretty much bankrolled it himself and between the iTunes sales and eventual DVD sales, I hope the project make a HUGE profit!

BTW I loved Neil Barney Houser as Dr. Horrible!

Yep, Doogie did a good job and has an excellent singing voice. He played the part pretty straight and serious unlike
Nathan who was a tad cheesy.   Which I got a kick out of but it kind of through off the pace a little since it
seemed to go from serious to farce as it went back and forth between the actors.

I agree this was an experiment on seeing what you can put out there on your own without having to kiss the studios
butt and for this reason alone it was worthwhile. I just thought the praise for the quality of the story was overblown.

Felicia Day had a pre-Horrible web series, "The Guild (http://www.youtube.com/user/watchtheguild)", which may have inspired Wheton (http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20213067_20213068_20214910,00.html) to do web vids.

It's about a group of people who play a game like World of Warcraft (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/index.xml).  I've not watched them all, but here they are:

Well, I THOUGHT it did...even if it didn't...it was cool to meet the cast. Maybe I was just in 'buy' mode, cuz I'd asked 'what's to buy for charity?'...and then that was offered. heh.

This is the first year that we honestly did not spend over $40 between the 4 of us on 'stuff' at Con. It was just too crazy on that floor.

Folks around here probably know I'm a big fan of Galactic Water Cooler. They recently spotlighted Dr. Horrible in one of their podcasts.

I was so disappointed to miss the panel on Thurs of CC. I doubt we will even try to buy Thurs. tix in the future. The bad thing is, they don't release the dang schedule till a couple weeks/days before con...so it's always a gamble. We've tried before to get down there early enough for stuff, and have never made it in time. They stop issuing passes at 6pm (which is stupid when they have panels and other stuff you need the pass for going late). But it's an all day drive for us. :(

For some reason this makes me feel like Joss is still thinking of us. The Avengers is mainstream and a big deal but Dr. Horrible is a guilty pleasure held by a few. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy!

I was think Penny could be a love bot! We'll see.

As he leaves, we ask if a Dr. Horrible 2 come after The Avengers.

That's the plan. We plan to be working on it this summer.

Wait Is Almost Over for New Dr. Horrible, Joss Whedon Says

USTIN, Texas — Joss Whedon may be the new hardest-working man in show business. The director, who's about to unleash The Avengers and is putting the finishing touches on his whirlwind production of Much Ado About Nothing, plans to produce a new installment of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog very soon.

Whedon said he'd like to begin work on the next installment of the supervillain musical farce this summer.

"We are hard on it. It's been a really tough year — couple of years — partially, I'm happy to say, because of work," Whedon told Wired during an interview at the South by Southwest Film festival, where he was promoting over-the-top horror-comedy The Cabin in the Woods (more from that interview to come).

The original Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog was created by Whedon, his brothers Jed and Zack, and Jed's wife, Maurissa Tancharoen, during the 2007-2008 writer's strike. Shot quickly and on a low budget, then released online in three parts, the miniseries won racked up awards, spawned comic books and was eventually released on DVD.

Fans have been salivating for a sequel ever since. And although Whedon's been very busy since the strike ended, he said progress is being made on the new Doctor Horrible.

"We do have a number of songs written," he said. "We have a whole outline."

Dr. Horrible, which became an internet sensation when it hit the web, starred Neil Patrick Harris as the eponymous doctor and aspiring supervillian. Firefly's Nathan Fillion played Captain Hammer, the eponymous doctor's nemesis, and The Guild star Felicia Day played Penny, the girl of both their dreams.

Whedon, who didn't offer much detail on the plot of the new iteration of the web series, said the biggest roadblock to unleashing a Dr. Horrible sequel — besides his need to get back into songwriting mode — has been aligning everyone's schedules for the next installment of the indie hit.

"We're stuck, basically, at this one part in the process," Whedon said. "All of us are looking at this summer as the time when we can go, 'Hey, you know what? We've got a little free time, let's get unstuck.' Neil has been like, 'How long?' We're all sort of just waiting, but the waiting will stop."

Anyone else as excited about the prospect as we are?

"DR. HORRIBLE'S SING-ALONG BLOG" MAKES ITS TELEVISION DEBUT ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 9, 9-10 PM ON THE CW

July 30, 2012 (Beverly Hills, CA) - Joss Whedon's acclaimed "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog," starring Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion and Felicia Day," will make its television debut on Tuesday, October 9 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET) on The CW.

Created as a three-part online musical in 2008 by Joss Whedon ("The Avengers," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"), the series stars Neil Patrick Harris ("How I Met Your Mother") as Billy, A.K.A. Dr. Horrible, a budding super villain whose plans for world domination continually go awry. His two goals: getting accepted into the Evil League of Evil, and working up the guts to speak to his laundromat crush Penny (Felicia Day, "The Guild"). The only thing standing in Billy's way is his superhero arch nemesis, Captain Hammer (Nathan Fillion, "Firefly," "Castle"). With one big score, Billy could get into the E.L.E. and earn the respect of Penny, but only if he can keep her away from the dashing Captain Hammer...

Directed by Joss Whedon, "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" was written by Maurissa Tancharden, Jed Whedon, Joss Whedon and Zack Whedon, with music by Jed Whedon and Joss Whedon.

Resurrecting this dead thread for this tidbit:  Whedon made more money directing Dr Horrible (http://geektyrant.com/news/joss-whedon-made-more-money-from-dr-horrible-than-the-avengers) than he did with The Avengers.

I don't know. Maybe it was more than his base avengers directing salary, but he also wrote the script and I can't believe he didn't have points on the back-end.

Heh. Even the news above is old news, as Wall Street Journal reported this back in April (http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/joss-whedon-says-he-earned-more-making-dr-horrible-than-the-avengers-weighs-in-on-marvel-vs-dc-20150424).  Link goes to Indiewire, which doesn't take a subscription to view.

Remember, this was only his second feature film and his first sadly was an abject box-office failure.

From the article:

Quote"They are in the business of hiring the guy who hasn't had a big success, because they don't have to pay that guy very much," Whedon notes.
