The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara is one of the books that inspired Joss to create Firefly. I am about 50% done and it an enthralling read. It's the story of the battle of Gettysburg through the eyes of various commanding officers on each side. Shaara paints quite a picture and I find myself feeling like I can hear and smell the battle as it happens.
And I'm thinking you weren't burdened with an overabundance of schooling.
