Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse... but you take a boat in the air that you don't love... she'll shake you off just as sure as the turn of the worlds. Love keeps her in the air when she ought to fall down... tells you she's hurting before she keels. Makes her a home.  -Mal

:(

I read a bunch of his book, NeXt, in the airports when I went out to California.  I need to get back to it.

QuoteThe 13th Warrior (1999), a near-perfect blend of adventure and horror which he wrote and co-directed.

I did not know this was a Chrichton Crichton flick!  LOVE IT!

Sad for his family and friends.

{Jeez, I can't spell}

Missed.

Steyn on Crichton. http://www.steynonline.com/content/view/1459/28

I remember reading that review and thinking how perfectly it captured the essence of Next, a fascinating novel. I've been thinking about this all evening as I've been out and about, spending time with some of my dearest friends and avoiding the news. Michael Crichton just got the trajectory of science and technology in a way that few wildly popular authors ever have. In this way, he reminds me of Gibson, who foresaw the sweeping isolation of the digital age long before it was anything more than a glimmer in Al Gore's eye.

Who will I go to for entertaining glimpses into our very near future? I'm going to miss Michael Crichton very, very much.

His site is worth checking out, but it seems they have it locked down for the moment. There are links to his speeches and essays that are worth the time. I hope they open the site up soon.
