Title: Postmodern Jukebox
Post by: Eric on March 26, 2014, 11:18:00 AM
Jazz pianist Scott Bradlee initially held (http://acculturated.com/postmodern-jukebox-an-alternate-universe-of-pop-music/) pop and rap music in disdain. Then, thanks to fan requests for modern songs, he began looking at the music in a different way, and saw that many had artistic merit somewhere within. So, he began to alter the songs in different styles; hence came Postmodern Jukebox (http://www.postmodernjukebox.com/).
I first saw them only today in this interesting redo of a rap song called "Talk Dirty", with some of the explicit verses done in Yiddish:

Last night I went to see another immersive theater show called Play/Date and afterwards I went back to the bar from Sleep No More to see this gal perform... https://www.facebook.com/cristinagattimusic (https://www.facebook.com/cristinagattimusic) She apparently is involved with this postmodern jukebox thing...

Please come back to playing at Sleep No More's restaurant instead of galavanting around the country...
She's in the latest one too:

Sara Niemietz has a silky-smooth voice as she sings a vintage soul version of Hey Ya! ("shake it like a Polaroid picture"). For a peppier version, if your browser supports it, click the lower-right gear and change the speed to "1.25".

I like queuing up PMJ on the Youtube app on my FireTV box and just letting it play.

Pearl wanted to surprise me with some PMJ tickets in Nov. at a place w/seating (often they are standing-only). She let the cat out of the bag, and I hesitated (fear that it'd be all twenty-something hipsters, I guess). Plus Morgan James wasn't touring with them any more, and she's got a killer voice.
